How To Take Care Of The Battery
1. Pay attention to the use accessories on your motorbike
The first thing you have to do is get to know how to use your own motorbike. Try not to use excessive accessories on the motorbike, especially those that use electrical energy. Examples include adding other lights as decoration, assembling audio devices, or changing the type of motorbike horn beyond the recommended limit. These simple things will actually make the battery drain quickly and have a short life.
2. Don't force the electric starter if your motorbike is hard to start
Use a manual (crank) starter instead. An electric starter that uses a battery as its power source is actually designed not only to make the process of starting the motor easier, but also to be used in emergencies such as the motor suddenly turning off on the highway.
3. Turn on your motorbike for a least 15 minutes every day
On the inside of the battery there are 2 plates (each has a negative and positive pole) made from calcium lead (PbCa). With the help of a kiprok (a type of Diode Bridge) which supplies electric current to the battery, this plate will react with the sulfuric acid liquid and deliver electrical energy to other electrical components. Over time, the cells contained in the battery will become dead (dry). So to prevent this, you have to turn on (heat) your motorbike for at least 15 minutes every day. Keep in mind, always use a manual starter to start the motorbike and never force the use of an electric starter if your motorbike is difficult to start.
4. When you want to turn off the motorbike, try to keep other eletrical components such as head lamp & sign lights in off condition
This ensures that when the motorbike is restarted, the required battery consumption (battery load) is not too high. Using the electrical components of the motorbike simultaneously when the motorbike is turned on can disrupt the stability of the electric voltage in your motorbike.
5. Always check the liquid level in the battery
Try not to exceed the upper and lower limits listed. If it is close to the lower limit, immediately add liquid H2O (distilled water) to the battery until it almost touches the upper limit. Even though the liquid inside the battery is in the form of sulfuric acid (H2SO4), always use H2O (distilled water) for the battery refilling process to maintain the degree of acidity (pH) of the liquid in the battery.
6. Check the condition of both battery terminals
If necessary, tighten the bolts at the terminal connections and make sure there are no leaks at the connections or the battery terminal valve. Battery leakage will be very dangerous for your motorbike and safety, especially the nature of liquid sulfuric acid (H2SO4) which can erode metal (corrode) and is flammable. In addition, looseness in the battery connection will cause white scale to form which can hinder the process of electricity flowing to the battery. If at the time of inspection it turns out that there is a white crust, immediately wash it with hot water and use a wire brush to clean it. If necessary, you can also use the help of WD40 liquid to deal with scale that is difficult to clean manually.
7. Check the condition of the kiprok whick carries electric current to the battery
This component acts as a regulator to supply electricity to the battery, especially at the charging stage. If there are indications such as a dim or unstable motor light, it is possible that one of the causes lies in the kiprok which is starting to break down and must be replaced immediately.
8. Check if there is leak in the battery body
If a leak does occur, immediately replace your old battery with a new Dynavolt battery near you. In addition to preventing unwanted things from happening because batteries contain toxic and explosive materials.
