Jorge Martin Ready to Debut with Aprilia at MotoGP Qatar

April 10, 2025

Jorge Martin 89, the 2024 MotoGP World Champion, is reported to be making a return to the 2025 MotoGP season. Earlier this year, Martin was involved in two serious accidents—one during the Sepang pre-season test and another while training with a supermoto bike in Lleida last February. Both incidents resulted in multiple severe injuries.

Due to those injuries, Martin had to undergo two surgeries and missed the MotoGP rounds in Thailand, Argentina, and Austin. The 27-year-old rider stated that the most serious injuries were fractures to the radius and scaphoid bones in his left hand.

However, the worst of the injuries were four fractures in his left foot and a muscle injury on the right side of his ribs. As his physical condition gradually improves, the rider known as “Martinator” even made an appearance at the MotoGP race in Austin at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Texas, United States, held on March 28–30, 2025.

Although he didn’t race, Jorge Martin reconnected with his team and showed support for Marco Bezzecchi and Lorenzo Savadori.

After returning from Austin, Martin underwent a follow-up examination with Dr. Xavier Mir at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday (April 2, 2025). After checking Martin’s condition, Dr. Mir released an official statement via Aprilia Racing to provide an update on the rider’s recovery.

According to Dr. Mir, Jorge Martin has made significant progress in his recovery process and is highly likely to be cleared to compete in the Qatar MotoGP.

Martin is also scheduled to undergo another check-up with Dr. Mir next week.

"Clinical and radiological examinations of Jorge Martin’s scaphoid, radius, and pyramidal bone fractures have shown positive developments," said Dr. Mir, as quoted from Aprilia Racing’s release.

"This allows him to enter a new phase of functional recovery, so he can travel to Qatar and assess how he feels to participate in the Grand Prix—of course, pending clearance from the MotoGP medical team," he added.

If granted permission by Dr. Mir to travel to Qatar, Martin will undergo another medical check with MotoGP’s Medical Director, Dr. Angel Charte, at the Lusail Circuit on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Low Chance of Victory

Several MotoGP analysts believe that Martin has a slim chance of reclaiming the world title this year, mainly due to the points gap between him and the current championship leader.

At the moment, the top of the standings is led by Alex Marquez 73 with 86 points. Therefore, Martin’s chances of returning to title contention appear slim. His only realistic shot at re-entering the top 3 is if he consistently scores top points in both Sprints and Races, while the current top riders show a significant drop in performance. Even so, Martin himself seems to have modest expectations and is not aiming to defend his title—simply being able to race again is already a win for him at this point.

Qatar MotoGP Will Be Exciting

Don’t miss the Qatar MotoGP round this weekend. It’ll surely be a special race if Martin returns to the track. Hopefully, Martin will be able to put up an exciting fight against Alex, Marc Marquez 93, and Pecco Bagnaia 63 in tomorrow’s race. In addition to MotoGP, the action in the Moto2 class will be equally intense, as IntactGP Dynavolt rider Manuel Gonzalez 18 is expected to once again put up a strong battle to reclaim the series win.
